Cars with foreign license plates In Turkey, in order to obtain permission to stay and use cars with foreign license plates, you must comply with the rules established by the Road Inspectorate. Cars with foreign license plates that meet all established conditions can stay in the TR for 24 months. Permission is issued only to those persons who reside abroad In order for cars with foreign license plates to enter Turkey, you must stay in the foreign country for at least 185 days a year. It is also necessary to submit official documents to the relevant authorities. Only people living abroad can bring cars with foreign license plates into Turkey. Persons who have not traveled abroad or do not live abroad cannot bring and drive such vehicles in the country. The driver of a vehicle with a foreign license plate will be recorded and noted in the passport; accordingly, third parties cannot drive this vehicle during the entire period of stay for which the permit was issued. A person living abroad can bring as many cars with foreign license plates to Turkey as he wants, subject to registrationand also included in the passport, where each car is given permission for a maximum of 2 years. Persons with dual citizenship can also bring a car from abroad; there are no restrictions or other additional procedures. Necessary documents and conditions for importing a car into the territory of the Republic of Turkey from other countries The length of stay abroad and in Turkey is determined as part of the procedure for obtaining a passport and power of attorney. Those who want to bring a car from abroad must reside in the country where the car is registered. To enter Turkey by vehicle, the owner must have been abroad for at least 185 days of the past year at the time of entry. Thus, it turns out that anyone who has been in Turkey for more than 180 days in the past year is not allowed to import the car. A car that is imported into Turkey must officially belong in the country of residence to the person who imports it. It is also possible to bring someone else’s car by proxy. For a vehicle imported under a power of attorney, the residential addresses of both the owner of the vehicle and the person importing it must be registered outside the Turkish Customs Zone. Documents: driver's license, certificate of foreign ownershipties and insurance policy valid in Turkey. Today, there are no taxes when importing a vehicle into the territory of the TR for the period established by law, that is, 24 months. After importing the car into the country, the owner has the right to leave the country, but not by car, otherwise the period given for the residence permit vehicle is cancelled. Tax payment and customs clearance are required if the vehicle is imported permanently. If the owner needs to leave the country without a car, then the day before leaving Turkey, he must submit an application to customs indicating the address of the parking lot where the vehicle will be located, indicating that in his absence, third parties will not use it. If the application is missing, the owner a fine is issued. It is prohibited to transfer the car to third parties for driving, with the exception of family members. A foreigner must pay any outstanding fines before leaving the country, otherwise he may simply not be allowed to fly out or cross a land border.
